The Forest Watch Program tracks and monitors all logging and other harmful practices carried out on Ohio's public lands, both state and national.

The Forest Watch program is crucial to all of the Buckeye Forest Council’s work protecting Ohio’s forests and their inhabitants.  With the help of volunteers and supporters, the Buckeye Forest Council is reinvigorating and strengthening this program that so well serves our mission to protect Ohio’s forests through education, advocacy, and organizing.

Since 1993, the BFC has developed a network of volunteers who visit state and national forests in Ohio and examine the management practices of the Ohio Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service.

The Buckeye Forest Council trains Forest Watch volunteers to document the adverse impacts of logging and resource extraction on our public forests.  Those volunteers essentially adopt a forest and often become dedicated advocates for forest protection. The action component of Forest Watch consists of volunteers educating the public, attending state forest open houses, organizing local forest protection efforts, writing letters and/or meeting with legislators, and writing letters to local newspapers. This program thus encourages and supports Ohioans to become more active citizens, while exposing environmentally harmful activities taking place on public forest lands.
