Ohio was once 95% forested. It is said that a
squirrel could travel through the treetops from the
Ohio River to Lake Erie without ever touching the
ground. Today, Ohio is only 30% forested.
Our government
agencies are allowing corporate interests to build
roads, log and sell trees from our state and national
forests, despite being publicly owned and administered
through state and federal taxes.
The Buckeye Forest Council is a network of individuals and
organizations working to protect Ohio’s native
forests and their inhabitants. We strive to allow Ohio’s wild to recover by protecting and
preserving Ohio’s public forests from exploitation
through logging, mining, oil & gas drilling, and
other harmful activities.
Your membership will help us protect our natural legacy through public education, grassroots
campaigns, litigation, policy
advocacy, legislative education and lobbying.
