LOUDONVILLE -- Be vigilant in dealing with Columbia Gas Transmission Corp.

That's the warning from an environmental advocacy group to both the public and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in the wake of what the utility said was a mistake in cutting trees in the Mohican-Memorial State Forest last week.

Coal Mining Allowed Under and Adjacent to Dysart Woods

On March 5, Ohio’s Seventh District Court of Appeals affirmed the decision by the Ohio Reclamation Commission to uphold the granting of a permit allowing coal mining under and adjacent to Dysart Woods, one of Ohio’s last old-growth forests and a National Natural Landmark.

A panel of three judges reviewed an extensive record of evidence from the 2004 hearings before the Reclamation Commission where witnesses gave testimony on issues regarding hydrology, forestry, and geotechnical mining engineering.
