Buckeye Forest Council asks Ohio Division of Forestry to justify logging, protect sensitive areas

hocking_slope In a letter to the Ohio Division of Forestry, the Buckeye Forest Council, Ohio Environmental Council and Ohio Sierra Club requested that the division provide justification for their decision to cut trees a healthy, mature section within the Hocking State Forest. 

In addition, the groups are asking the Ohio Division of Forestry to adjust the delineation of two cutting sections in order to provide a buffer zone between the logging activities and a protected ravine.

Appeals court hears arguments in Dysart Woods mining case

Ohio's 7th District Court of Appeals was scheduled to hear oral arguments yesterday on a request by a forest advocacy group for a court order to block coal mining under Dysart Woods in Belmont County.

The Columbus-based (and formerly Athens-based) Buckeye Forest Council (BFC) has an appeal pending of a state permit that allows the Ohio Valley Coal Co. of Alledonia, Ohio (OVCC), to expand a mining operation under Dysart.

Columbia Gas Transmission delays tree cutting

PERRYSVILLE -- Columbia Gas Transmission Company still plans to conduct tree clearing in the Mohican State Memorial Forest, but the Nov. 16 date has been pushed back.
